This workshop provides you with a set of communication skills to strengthen and support an environment of civility in the workplace today.

Participant Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify and assess emotional triggers and personal reactions, then evaluate the consequences of incivility on the emotional environment in the workplace
  • Determine appropriate options for language, actions and reactions which would serve to strengthen and support an environment of civility in the workplace
  • Identify, assess and apply rules of thumb to ensure civil communication

Topics

  1. Define incivility in the workplace.
  2. Identify and assess emotional triggers which may cause or reinforce a sense of incivility.
  3. Identify and assess the intensity of reactions and responses to emotional triggers in situations of perceived incivility.
  4. Identify and evaluate short- and long-term consequences of incivility on the emotional environment in the workplace.
  5. Identify, assess and determine options for suitable actions, reactions and responses which would strengthen and support an environment of civility in the workplace.
  6. Outline communication strategies which would ensure civil communication in a variety of real-life situations.
